Kanao
Tsuyuri

Kanao was sold by her parents as a child and had shut down so completely that she could not make a decision by the time Kanae and Shinobu Kocho bought her freedom on the spot. The sisters raised her at the Butterfly Mansion, and she grew into a Tsuguko, a designated successor, with the best eyes in the Corps. What she did not grow was a will. For years she flipped a coin to decide anything her masters had not ordered.

Tanjiro broke that pattern almost by accident during his rehabilitation. He borrowed her coin, flipped it, and told her to listen to her heart from now on, because the voice was small but it was there. The change shows up quietly afterward: in the Entertainment District she physically stepped in front of Tengen to stop him from taking her friends on a suicide mission, her own decision, no coin.

She survived the same Final Selection as Tanjiro, silently and without a scratch. By the Hashira Training arc, Shinobu trusts her enough to tell her the one plan she has told nobody else, which is both an honor and a weight, since it concerns the demon that killed Kanae.
